Senior Night Dinner: ChopTank in Fells Point
Senior Night is one of those milestones that feels like the culmination of so much hard work, camaraderie, and growth. It’s a night to celebrate not just the end of a season, but the bonds you’ve built with your teammates along the way. For me, that celebration took an unforgettable turn when my teammates—Milos, Veljko, Garrett, Sam, Pete, Idriss, and our families—decided to cap off the night with dinner at Choptank, a gem of a restaurant nestled in the heart of Fells Point.
Fells Point is one of Baltimore’s most charming neighborhoods, and Choptank perfectly captures its vibe. Located right on the waterfront, the restaurant has a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels both upscale and laid-back. As we walked in, the buzz of conversation and the clinking of glasses filled the air, mingling with the faint sound of live music drifting in from a nearby bar. The space was rustic yet modern, with exposed brick walls, nautical accents, and large windows that offered a glimpse of the harbor. It was the kind of place that made you feel like you were part of something special
, even if you were just there for a casual dinner with friends.
The food, of course, was incredible. Choptank is known for its seafood, and it did not disappoint. We started with a tower of oysters on the half shell, their briny freshness perfectly complemented by tangy mignonette and spicy cocktail sauce. For the main course, I went with the crab cakes—because when in Baltimore, you have to—and they were everything a crab cake should be: lumpy, lightly seasoned, and packed with flavor. Milos and Veljko opted for the shrimp and grits, which they declared “unreal,” while Garrett and Sam went all-in on the lobster rolls. Pete and Idriss, ever the adventurers, tried the whole roasted fish, which arrived at the table with a dramatic flair that had us all laughing and snapping pictures.
But what made the night truly special wasn’t just the food—it was the location. Fells Point is one of those hidden spots in Baltimore that feels like a well-kept secret. With its cobblestone streets, historic row houses, and waterfront views, it’s a neighborhood that exudes charm and character. As we walked back to the car after dinner, the streets were alive with energy. Couples strolled hand in hand, groups of friends spilled out of bars laughing, and the glow of string lights overhead gave the whole scene a magical quality.
What struck me most, though, was how surprised my parents were when I told them about our night. Like many outsiders, they tend to think of Baltimore as a “rough” city, a place defined by its challenges rather than its beauty. But Fells Point is a reminder that Baltimore is so much more than its reputation. It’s a city of hidden gems, of vibrant neighborhoods and unexpected delights. It’s a place where you can turn a corner and find yourself in a scene straight out of a postcard.
